Requirements

Description

Learn how to draw and render cartoon characters from the ground up in this course. You’ll learn everything you need to do this. In this case, I’ll assume that you don’t know very much about drawing or how to use any digital illustration software at this point.

If you want to learn how to draw and design cartoon characters, this class is for you. The first part of this class is called “how to draw and design cartoon characters.” And the second part will talk about how to finish them on digital illustration software, like how to add the final line, color, and light and shadow to them.

When we start to learn how to draw the characters with our head unit, we’ll do that first. Use this class to learn how to draw the head. There are a lot of different parts of the body, but I think the head is complex enough to be its own unit. If you can do it, you’ve already done half of the design! There will be a lot of information in this unit about the shape of the head, and how you can make it look good without having to spend a lot of time.

The next unit talks about the rest of the body. It talks about how the body works. We’re going to start talking about the mannequin now. This is a very good tool for drawing and designing cartoon bodies from your own ideas. People learn a lot about their bodies in this lesson, but they’ll learn about them in a way that’s very easy to understand. You can make more realistic-looking cartoons if you learn these simple shapes.

In the next unit, I’ll show you how to put all of the things I’ve shown you so far into practice by making five quick sketches that I’ll explain.

It then moves on to the Inkscape unit. Inkscape is a free, open-source, vector illustration software. This means that you don’t work the same way as you do in a traditional pixel-based software like Photoshop, which is why it’s different. As long as you have a keyboard and mouse, you don’t need a drawing tablet to make your characters look good in Inkscape. In this unit, I’ve left you a mini-course that goes into a lot of detail about the basics of the program, but it’s also very short and only has 4 lessons. From there, the unit moves on to more specific lessons about how to trace and render sketches. By the end of this unit, you should be able to turn a simple sketch into a beautiful illustration with the right tools and techniques.

This is the last rendering unit. I’ll import the sketches I made earlier into Inkscape, and I’ll show you how to use everything from the Inkscape unit.

This is another thing I should tell you about. I usually put a list of exercises that will help you learn everything we’ve talked about at the end of most of my lessons. Make them all!

This class will be a lot of fun. You can learn how to draw cartoons, or you can learn how to use Inkscape to make your sketches look better. This course is for people who want to learn how to draw and make cartoons.

Who this course is for:

  • Anyone who likes cartoons and wants to learn how to draw things as they see on TV.
